Dear Shoultz and U.S. Access Board;
RE: Color Of Curb ADA Warning Ramps
Perhaps the ADA Standards should specify to NOT use ugly and rusting materials!
Some kind of contrasting color to curb ramps, I believe is the wording, but should you not exclude,
"easily rusting and/or deteriorating mediums that stain surrounding materials, and promote a
degrading and ugly appearance? That may scar an otherwise beautiful area?
Hawk and The Excellentway Society™;
RE: Color Of Curb ADA Warning Ramps:
SINCE:
There exists a method of using ugly rust colored deteriorating iron or metal alloy for ADA warning
ramps. When used, they promote an ugly and depressing view, stain new or existing concrete, and
help to blight and further depreciate the area. They are scars to an otherwise modern
improvement when used.
WE REQUEST:
That you consider to not allow such rusting and ugly permanent scars on the neighborhoods in
which they are installed or would be installed.
That you consider excluding any colors and/or materials that encourage rust and deterioration,
blight and the further depreciation of the neighborhoods in which they are installed.
That as best practice, you consider banning the use of colors/materials that may stain concrete, or
present a rusting and deteriorating view of the neighborhood, a scar on the landscape.
That you encourage a modern and clean, more optimistic view for all people, and especially those
who have a disability, instead of allowing decaying materials, rusting patinas, that look like
remnants of war, blight, and decay.
That you improve the overall intent of current regulations and policies to reflect the use of positive
and non-degrading, non-staining materials, and any color or material except rusting brown hues or
those that will stain nearby concrete or area.
We should not be using materials that contribute to decay and depression, but employing a more
modern and clean, optimistic view, especially in new construction where such current rusting
patinas are a scar on the area, instead of an encouragement.
We should be employing a positive, long lasting, pleasant and even inspiring view, wherever these
ramps are used.
Thank you!
